What is Palliative Care?
Palliative care is a specialized form of medical care that focuses on improving the quality-of-life for people with serious or life-threatening illnesses. It aims to relieve suffering, manage symptoms, and provide emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families.
Palliative care is not limited to end-of-life care. It can be provided at any stage of a serious illness, alongside curative treatments. It involves a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and therapists.
Palliative care focuses on: Managing pain and other physical symptoms, Addressing emotional and spiritual distress, Providing support for caregivers, Helping patients and families make informed decisions about their care, and Respecting patients’ wishes and values
